This capacity allows sea crossings between the Peninsula and the Balearic Islands.

Professional powers include the ability to offer professional services, carry out maneuvers in ports and beaches, as well as carry out sea trials and lifesaving operations, all with the required qualifications.

Also has authorization to organize tourist and recreational fishing excursions with a maximum of 6 passengers on board, providing you with a wide range of professional and leisure opportunities at sea.

Requirements to access the exam

Accessing the Yacht Captain exam requires not only a passion for the sea, but also a specific set of requirements. Before you can obtain the title of Yacht Captain you must be in possession of the previous titles such as the PER and Yacht Skipper.

Minimum age: Applicants must be of legal age. 

Certifications or previous courses:  possess the title of Yacht Master.

Pay the corresponding rate per current year: the amount varies depending on the degree, and the management to obtain the relevant degree. In the case of Yacht Captain the fee is €87.1. The payment can be made through the fee gateway.

Make the request for the exam in the authorized period. The presentation of a proof of payment stamped by the bank acts as the application itself. In this document, the call to which the applicant wishes to apply must be clearly indicated.

What is the content of the Exam?

Each question is uniquely phrased, offering 4 possible answers from which candidates must choose. 

How long is the exam?

The maximum duration of this exam is 2 hours and half, during which applicants must demonstrate their knowledge in crucial areas of navigation. 

What is the minimum number of questions that must be answered correctly to pass?

28 questions, although with specific restrictions regarding the number of errors allowed in certain subjects. In navigation theory, up to 5 errors are accepted, while in navigation calculations, the maximum allowed is 4 errors.

Passing can be achieved by modules, following precise criteria for both areas of study. This is subject to the specific regulations of each competent Administration. 

The first module, focused on navigation, consists of astronomical navigation theory and calculations, which accounts for half of the total exam questions. This section includes 20 questions and lasts 1 and a half hours, with a maximum of 5 possible errors and a minimum of 6 correct answers.

On the other hand, the generic module It covers the subjects of Meteorology and Oceanography, along with English. This module comprises the other half of the exam questions and lasts 1 hour. In case of correction by modules, a maximum of errors and a minimum of responses of 5 and 6, respectively, are allowed.
