It is the responsibility of the skipper to ensure that the boat has the&nbsp;<strong>appropriate safety equipment<\/strong>&nbsp;for the area in which you are sailing, always respecting the limits of the design category.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For pre-1998 boats without CE marking, a technical report is still required to change the zone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Relationship between nautical qualifications and areas<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Each qualification is linked to specific areas:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Yacht Captain<\/strong>: Unlimited navigation (zone 1).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Yacht Skipper<\/strong>: Up to 150 miles, equivalent to zones 2 and part of 1.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>PER (Pleasure Craft Skipper)<\/strong>: Up to 12 miles (zone 4), with extension to the Balearic Islands through practice.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>PNB (Basic Navigation Pattern)<\/strong>: Up to 5 miles (zone 5).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Navigation License<\/strong>: Up to 2 miles (zone 6).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Design Categories<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The&nbsp;<strong>categories A, B, C and D<\/strong>&nbsp;determine a vessel&#039;s ability to navigate in adverse conditions. Only vessels with CE marking (after 1998) are assigned a design category; earlier ones must be assessed by a naval engineer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sailing in specific areas requires more than just a qualification.
