Read on to discover how the boat registration is made up and what information it contains.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What is the registration code?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The registration is <strong>mandatory on any boat with a length greater than 2.5 meters<\/strong>, as long as it is not considered a \u201cbeach artifact.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The registration code is <strong>set of letters and numbers that identifies the ship<\/strong> unequivocally, since it is unique and original for each boat. It must be painted on both sides of the boat, above the waterline and in appropriate color and size to be distinguished by any other vessel at sea.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The registration code <strong>must be visible at all times<\/strong>, so the captain or skipper of the boat is responsible for ensuring that the set of letters and numbers that make it up are not erased or suffer any corrosion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What do the letters and numbers on a boat&#039;s registration mean?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The set of letters and numbers that make up the license plate <strong>It is not random, but responds to an order and meaning<\/strong> specifics, which we will see below:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>First of all, we can observe a <strong>ordinal number, corresponding to the list<\/strong> in which the ship is located.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Below are the <strong>two letters corresponding to the maritime province<\/strong> in which the boat is registered.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The next <strong>number corresponds to the Maritime District<\/strong> from the port of registration.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Subsequently, the <strong>Folio number<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Registration ends with <strong>last two figures of the current year<\/strong> (only on boats registered after 1991).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What documentation is needed to register a boat?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>To register a boat, the <strong>Maritime Authority requires<\/strong> present certain documents:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Declaration of conformity of the vessel<\/strong>: in it, the manufacturer, or its authorized representative, declares that the boat complies with the current legislation of the European Union.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Engine conformity declaration<\/strong>: It is also provided by the manufacturer and includes aspects such as noise or engine exhaust emissions.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Ship inspection certificate<\/strong>: certificate of seaworthiness issued by the Maritime Administration, which guarantees that the vessel meets the conditions required for navigation.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In the case of new boats, <strong>invoice with VAT<\/strong> broken down.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In the case of second-hand boats, <strong>purchase and sale contract.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If the boat is not new and comes from another flag, liquidation of the <strong>ITPYAJD tax<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>ID <\/strong>of the owner (certified copy).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Proof of <strong>payment of T0 and T5 fees<\/strong> (corresponding to the private use of the public port domain and of sports and of<strong> length less than 2.5 meters or those that can be considered \u201cbeach artifacts\u201d<\/strong>, such as canoes, canoes or kayaks without a motor, for example.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What other ways can a ship be identified?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition to the registration, some ships have other forms of unequivocal identification, such as the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/anclademia.com\/en\/blog\/maritime-mobile-service-identification\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/anclademia.com\/blog\/identificacion-servicio-movil-maritimo\/\">MMSI number<\/a> or IMO<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Since 1994, and through the adoption of the SOLAS Convention, the IMO (<a href=\"https:\/\/anclademia.com\/en\/blog\/international-maritime-organization\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/anclademia.com\/blog\/organizacion-maritima-internacional\/\">International Maritime Organization<\/a>) assigns fishing vessels of 100 gross tonnage or more a <strong>unique identification number, consisting of the letters IMO followed by a 7-digit number<\/strong>, which must be visible either on the hull or on the superstructure of the ship. If the boat carries passengers, the number must also be visible from the air.
